I actually found this issue on another Jeep forum and that sent me down the path to test it out. While it should last longer than three years, any number of things could have happened to it that would kill it. Tried disconnecting battery cable and letting it sit. I can't unlock/lock the car with it or even get it into accessory mode. I can start the car via placing the key on steering wheel(2014 Ford Escape push-button start), but the key is never recognized to open/close, etc. Make sure that your key fob battery is not dead. Press your dead key FOB flat against the indentation. The car battery is within a year new. It eventually goes away. I have a similar problem; no key detected. But the RFID chip still works the same way, BUT the RFID chip is in the butt of the key FOB (the opposite end of the opening to put the key ring through).
